Short Answer Questions (30-40 words)
Answer: The author used to do packing nicely. Though he had to do the same work many times to pack additional items or to unpack some items. He developed an opinion that he could do packing better than most people in the world.
Thus he was proud of his skill.
Answer: Author did not want to sit idle and watch people doing work. He implies this by his statement.
He wanted to supervise and guide people while they were working.
Answer: Author was never sure if he had packed toothbrush. He would open his bag to check. If the packing was done in the morning, he would pack it before using it. He would have to repack to get his toothbrush. Then he would forget to pack it. But he would remember it just before leaving house. He would wrap it in a pocket handkerchief to carry with him.
Answer: While packing contents of hampers, they had packed strawberry jam on top of a tomato. The tomato squashed. They had to clean it with a teaspoon.
Answer: Jerome told George and Harris that he was very skilful in packing and they should leave this aspect to him.
Immediately they completely withdrew from the activity. They sat away from the activity and watched him doing it all alone.
Answer: Harris asked Jerome if he did not want to put boots in the bag.
Jerome was disappointed that now he would have to open the bag and put boots in. He felt irritated because Harris did not remind before the bag was closed.
Answer: Jerome unpacked the bag and searched everything. He could not locate it. So he took out everything still he could not find it. Then he started repacking things one by one. He held everything up and shook it before packing. At last he found it inside a boot.
Long Answer questions (100-120 words)
Answer: The hampers had many things like plates, cups, bottles, jam, pies, stove, cake and tomato. In the beginning itself they broke a cup.
Harris packed strawberry on top of a tomato and it was squashed. It had to be cleaned using a teaspoon. Then George stepped on butter. They tried to put it into the kettle but it won’t go in. What went in did not come out. They scraped it and put on the chair. Harris sat on it. Finally it was packed in a teapot.
They stepped on things. They put things behind them and could not find when they needed those. They put pie at the bottom and heavy things on it. Pies were smashed.
Finally packing was completed at 12:50 PM
Answer: Jerome took more than usual time to finish packing. Once done, he closed the bag and strapped it. George and Harris sat lazily in the room.
Now, Harris asked if he did not want to pack boots. Jerome had forgotten to pack these. He opened the bag to pack his boots.
Then Jerome had a doubt if he had packed his toothbrush. He took out everything but could not find toothbrush. Then he started repacking things one by one. He held everything up and shook it before packing. At last he found it inside a boot.
Jerome recalled that he had packed his specs in the bag. He opened the bag again, took out specs. He finally strapped the bag at 10:05 PM
Answer: George and Harris were not good at packing. They had spread things around. They moved around a lot to find those. In the process George stepped on butter.
After removing butter from the slipper of George, they tried to put it into the kettle. But it won’t go in. What went in did not come out. They scraped it and put on the chair. Harris sat on the chair and butter stuck on him.
They went searching for butter throughout the room. By chance George had gone around the back of Harris and butter was located. He removed the butter. It was finally packed in a teapot.

Answer: It had become bore of living in the limited space of a pond. It wanted to move around the world. But it was not capable of doing it by herself. So she made a request to kangaroo to give her a ride.
Answer: Kangaroo said that her feet were unpleasantly wet and cold. He may get body ache.
Answer: Duck bought four pairs of worsted socks. She bought a cloak for herself. She promised to smoke a cigar every day. She promised to sit quite still and say nothing but ‘quack’
Answer: They started their journey in a moonlit night. They made three rounds of the world.

Answer: The duck liked to travel, she was aware where she wanted to visit. She was adventurous as well. She was aware of her limitations thus requested kangaroo to help her. She was creative. She took all the steps to remove fear from the mind of kangaroo. She went a step further and promised to sit quite still and speak nothing during the journey around the world.
Kangaroo was of helping nature. He was willing to help duck realise her wish. He had a clear thought process and did not mince words. Kangaroo expressed his fears and objections in clear words. And when those were addressed, he gave a ride to duck.
