Answer: Montmorency had the habit of obstructing the work and get abused for it. If, by his behaviour, people got irritated and threw things at him to hit him, he thought he has made his day. He felt happy if anybody stumbled over him and cursed him for hours.
I think it was a naughty dog who wanted to draw attention of everybody towards himself. I come to this conclusion because his every activity was to draw attention of people. He did not harm anyone.
Answer: In my opinion Harris was the worst packer.
He packed the bottle of strawberry jam on a tomato. The tomato was squashed. Then he sat on the butter. He along with George had tried to put butter into the kettle. But whole of it could not be placed. With great difficulty the butter was packed in a teapot.
He could not handle Montmorency and blamed the narrator for encouraging the dog. It was a case of ‘a poor carpenter blames his tools’
Even the narrator had labelled him as the worst packer. I believe his assessment was correct.
Answer: Just when the things were needed to be packed, Montmorency came and sat on these. Every time George or Harris extended their hands to pick up things, he thought they wanted to touch his nose.
He put his legs into the jam. He disturbed all the spoons. He thought lemons were rats. So he put his mouth into the container and bit three lemons. Harris hit him with the frying pan to drive him away.
Thus Montmorency was a nuisance during packing. He created lot of troubles for George and Harris. This is how he contributed to the packing.
Answer: The narrator wanted to explain George and Harris how packing should be done. But the words selected by him did not mean it. So both George and Harris pulled away from the job of packing. Author ended up doing packing all by himself.
George and Harris volunteered to do packing for three hampers. Right at the beginning they broke a cup. Then Harris packed the container of strawberry jam on tomato. The tomato squashed and had to be cleaned with a spoon. George stepped on butter. They packed heavy things on pastry, thus it was spoilt.
