Long Answer questions (120-150 words)
Answer: The teacher of Tommy and Margie was a mechanical teacher. It was installed in one of the rooms of the house which was called a schoolroom. It had a big screen to display study material and questions. The answer sheet had to be written in a punch code and put in a particular slot of the machine. The teacher calculated marks in no time. The mechanical teacher would sometimes start malfunctioning. A County Inspector would repair it. If the problem was large, it used to be taken away for repair.
The teacher of the old era was a human being. He came to the school same as kids used to come. He taught students through a book. All students in a class were taught the same thing. Teacher asked questions to students and checked their homework. There was interaction between teacher and student.
Above are salient differences between teachers of two era.
Answer: We all are aware that a paper is made from pulp of wood of certain types of trees. Every student needs to have several books every year. Books bought in a preceding year are normally thrown away or destroyed at the end of the academic session.
So many other books are produced every year. These consist of novels, comics, journals, management books and every other topic one can think of. Some people store these books for future reference while many throw away after reading.
It is estimated that more than 80,000 trees are cut everyday for making paper. The process of manufacturing ink creates pollution to land and water.
Thus impact of printing books on environment is significant. We can save environment by adopting tele-books and e-books. Such books can be made available through environment friendly means.
Answer: The schools of the present era were within an individual’s house. Every student studied alone. A mechanical teacher was installed in a room of the house. It could be programmed to the age of the student to change level of a subject. The lessons and questions appeared on a screen. The student had to write answers in a code language.
Teacher of old era was a human being. Kids and teachers used to come to a special building called school. The teacher taught and explained lessons to all the students of the class. He gave them home work and asked question. Kids travelled together, sat together, laughed together and played together. They could discuss about homework and help each other. There was a lot of interaction between kids.
Thus I agree with Margie that school of olden times must have been a fun.
Answer:
Dear Diary,
17th May 2157,
This afternoon my friend Tommy showed a dusty old thing. I understood that it was a book. It had yellow and crinkly pages. Words were printed on each page. Words were static on its pages. They did not change even when I returned to the page read earlier. It is so unlike to tele-books.
The book talks about school of some centuries ago. These schools had a human being as a teacher. Teachers and kids used to come to the school from their homes. Teacher would explain, ask questions and give homework to students. Kids used to come together, sit together in a class, play together and return to their homes together. Since the homework was same for the class they could discuss about it and help each other.
Those days must have been a fun unlike the monotony and loneliness of this era.
Margie
Answer: A teacher is a friend, philosopher, guide, mentor and a motivator to students. A student not only learns textbook lessons from the teacher but also lessons of life are learnt through various activities. Building of better linguistic skills, teamwork and being positive are taught in the classroom and playground. A student may not realise importance of such qualities during schooling. However these are the basic attributes that transform a person into a better citizen of society.
A mechanical teacher is a machine that churns out lessons and questions according to pre-programmed contents. There is little scope for interaction. Emotional needs of a student gets neglected. He / she remains a lonely personality. They do not understand importance of friendship and friends. Teamwork and bonding takes a back seat.
Thus I am of the opinion than a human teacher is better that a mechanical teacher.
